- W2363361805 abstract "This study aims to explore the present situation of physical education in 15 schools for the mentally retarded in Beijing.The results show the following:(1) The students in these schools are mostly those with moderate and severe intellectual disabilities;the physical education teachers in these schools have an educational background which satisfies both the national and municipal needs for basic education;most of the teachers in these schools are young and middle-aged male teachers;and most of them have primary and intermediate professional titles.(2) The teaching targets focus on both physical and mental development of students with intellectual disabilities;the teaching attaches importance to the students' interest,functional impairments and motor skills;the teaching methods mostly involve group teaching and hierarchal teaching,and the attention to individual differences of the students;physical education lacks a systemic and scientific system of evaluation,as is evidenced by simple evaluation methods and monotonous teaching content.(3) The sports sites and facilities basically satisfy the needs for regular physical education,but cannot meet the demand for extracurricular training and activities;these schools lack standard sports sites,and urban schools have much better sports facilities than rural schools." @default.
