- W2364196683 abstract "Objective To evaluate the clinical value of BACTEC MGIT 960 system on Mycobacterium detection and drug susceptibility testing.Methods The sputum specimens of tuberculosis suspect patients were tested with direct acid-fast sputum smear,BACTEC MGIT 960 and L-J culture.The drug susceptibility of clinical M.Tuberculosis isolates was evaluated with MGIT 960 and the proportion method of L-J medium.We compared the positive rates of testing,the cultivation time of Mycobacterium and the results of drug susceptibility between the methods of BACTEC MGIT 960 system and traditional testing.Results The sputum specimens of 634 tuberculosis suspect patients were tested in this study.The positive rates of Mycobacterium detection were 51.7%(326/634),37.7%(239/634) and 14.7%(93/634) for MGIT 960,L-J method and direct acid-fast sputum smear testing respectively.The rates of bacterial contamination were 4.9% and 4.4% respectively for MGIT 960 system and L-J method.The average days of Mycobacterium isolation were 12 and 32 respectively for MGIT 960 and L-J methods.The rates of drug susceptibility were 96.6%,95.5%,97.2% and 97.2% respectively for isoniazide,rifampicin,streptomycin and ethambutol.There was no difference in drug susceptibility between the two methods.The average days of drug susceptibility testing were 9 and 36.5 respectively with MGIT 960 and L-J proportion methods.Conclusion The system of BACTEC MGIT 960 improves the positive rate of detection and decreases the time of cultivation and drug susceptibility testing.It is helpful in early diagnosis and treatment for the patients with tuberculosis." @default.
