- W2364254610 abstract "The lectostratotype section of the Nanhao Formation (the Upper Member of the Zusailing Formation in this paper) contains extremely abundant fossil brachiopods: Xinanospirifer flabellum Rong, Xu et Yang, X. cf. sanduensis (Jiang), Plectatrypa? sp., Cyrtiidae gen. et sp. indet., and a few trilobites: Latiproetus (Astroproetus) cf. latilimbatus (Grabau) in the Nanhao area, Baoting County, Hainan Province, South China. Among them, Xinanospirifer is characteristic of the Salopinella-Xinanospirifer Assemblage Zone of the Late Telychian of the Late Llandoverian in the Yangtze Region, China. It is gene- rally equivalent to the upper part of the graptolite griestoniensis Biozone to the graptolite spiralis-grandis Biozone; trilobite Latiproetus (Astroproetus) latilimbatus (Grabau) is also a significant element of the Coronocephalus Assemblage Zone of the Upper Member of the Xiushan Formation of the Telychian Stage in the Yangtze Region, China, an indisputable fact indicating that the Nanhao Formation of the lectostratotype belongs to the Late Telychian of the Llandoverian, rather than the Yanguanian of Early Carboniferous in age. It is generally equivalent to the upper parts of the graptolite griestoniensis Biozone to the graptolite spiralis-grandis Biozone. The Kaoqingshan Formation contains exceedingly abundant fossils, chiefly, corals Syringopora cf. qianbeiensis, S . cf. yiwaensis, S . cf. nanshanensis, S. fascioulalis, Heliolites sp., Heliolitella sp., H. longgaoensis, Squameolites densus, Plasmopora sp.; brachiopods Atrypa sp., Striispirifer sp., S . cf. hsiehi, Eospirifer sp., E. sinensis ?, Sowerbyella ? sp., Schizophoria ? sp.; trilobites Coronocephalus sp., C. rex, Encrinuridae gen. et sp. indet., gastropod Hormotoma sp. etc., most of which were commonly assigned to the Middle Silurian (Wenlockian) in age in the past. But new differences reveal that there exist many Early Telychian corals, brachiopods and trilobites, an indisputable fact that the Kaoqingshan Formation belongs to Early Telychian, rather than Middle Silurian (Wenlockian) in age. The Kaoqingshan Formation is generally equivalent to the graptolite turriculatus-crispus Biozone to the lower part of the graptolite griestoniensis Biozone. Conclusions: 1) The Nanhao Formation of the lectostratotype belongs to the Late Telychian of the Llandoverian, rather than the Yanguanian of Early Carboniferous in age; 2) The Nanhao Formation must be abandoned; 3) The Silurian Rocks are not complete, only the Llandovery Series of the Hainan Island is present." @default.
