- W2364984592 abstract "AIM: Arterial elasticity is closely associated with the onset of atherosclerosis of carotid artery and the final cardio-cerebrovascular events. In this study, the effect of Amlodipine Besylate on the arterial elasticity of old patients with essential hypertension was observed by colourful ultrasonograph and echo-tracking technique. METHODS: Fifty-two old patients, who were accorded with the diagnostic criteria of WHO/ISH for essential hypertension, were selected from the Affiliated Hospital of Jinggangshan University as hypertension group. They did not take any hypotensive drug or had stopped the drug for more than one week. The patients were given Amlodipine Besylate 5-10 mg per day for 24 weeks. The systolic blood pressure (SBP), diastolic blood pressure (DBP), pulse pressure difference and heart rate were measured before and after treatment. Moreover, the functional indexes of arterial elasticity including arterial stiffness parameter (β), pulse wave velocity (PWV-β), augmentation index (AI), pressure-strain elastic modulus (Ep), arterial compliance (AC) and intimal media thickness (IMT) of carotid were gained by using ALOKA SSD-5500SV colourful ultrasonograph and echo-tracking technique. Meanwhile, 51 persons with normal blood pressure were selected as control group. All the subjects were informed and agreed to the study. RESULTS: All 103 subjects were involved in the result analysis. ①The SBP, DBP, β, PWV-β, IMT, and Ep of the hypertension group were all higher than the control group, while the AC was lower than the control group significantly (P 0.05). No distinct difference was found in AI between two groups (P 0.05). ②Twenty-four weeks after Amlodipine Besylate treatment, the SBP, IMT, β, PWV-βand Ep value of the patients were significantly decreased compared with those before treatment (P 0.05) but AC value was increased remarkably (P 0.05). Although AI was increased, the difference was not significant (P 0.05). CONCLUSION: ①The colorful ultrasonograph and echo-tracking technique can be applied non-invasively to observe the arterial elasticity directly. ②Amlodipine Besylate can improve the arterial elasticity in old patients with essential hypertension." @default.
