- W2365199716 abstract "The content of γ-aminobutyric acid(GABA),taurine,aspartic acid,glutamicacid,alanine and glycine in several parts of mouse brain at different ages was de-termined by using the available ultramicrodansyl method with polyamide TLC,modified in this laboratory.What was found was as follows:(1)In the caudatoputamen the“inhibitory”transmitter GABA content significantly increased with age.And the taurine contentdecreased while the content of the“excitatory”transmitter aspartic acid and glutamicacid significantly increased during postnatal development up to adulthood.However,there was no change in content of these amino acids except in GABAcontent from adulthood to old age.(2)In the motor cortex the content of the“inhibitory”transmitter taurine and glycine decreased while the“excitatory”transmitter glutamic acid increased during postnatal development and the“in-hibitory”transmitter GABA continued to increase during ageing.(3)In thespinal cord the“inhibitory”transmitter GABA and taUrine decreased whilethe“excitatory”transmitter aspartic acid increased during postnatal development.(4)The ratio of total“inhibitory”,to“excitatory”transmitter amino acid contentin the caudatoputamen,motor,cortex as well as in the spinal cord significantlydecreased during postnatal development,and no significant change in the ratio du-ring ageing was noted.The ratio is about 1 in the adult,》1 in the newborn,and only in the spinal cord 1 in the old age.The highest ratio of“in-hibitory”to“excitatory”transmitter amino acids was noted in the caudatoputa-men,especially in newborn mice.It could be biochemically characterized by thefunction of the caudatoputamen during development." @default.
