- W2365280611 abstract "Bark beetles are abundant in forest ecosystem station on the south slope of the Qingling Mountains, but litter attention has been paid to the vertical distribution of population structure of bark beetles in different plant communities. The plant communities in forest ecosystem station on the south slope of the Qingling Mountains can be divided into 6 types according to vertical distribution of the dominant plant in different elevations. They are hilly cultivated land(community Ⅰ).Pinus tabulaeformis-Pinus armand-Quercus aliena var.acuteserrata(community Ⅱ),Pinus tabulaeformis-Pinus armand-Quercus variabilis(community Ⅲ),Pinus tabulaeformis-Pinus armand-Quercus liaotungensis(community Ⅳ),alpine Picea asperata(community Ⅴ) and alpine Abies fabri(community Ⅵ).The aim of the study is to ascertain the vertical distribution feature and diversity of plant and bark beetles among the 6 different plant communities in forest ecosystem station on the south slope of the Qingling Mountains in Huoditang,Shaanxi Province.Six plant communities at different vertical elevations were investigated in summer of 2001 to 2003.The species diversity of higher plant communities and the Coniferous Bark Beetles communities were measured with Shannon-Wiener's diversity index,Berger-Parker's dominance,Pielou's evenness index and species richness. The result showed that from shrub communities to mixed coniferous and broadleaved forest communities, the Shannon-Wiener's diversity index,Pielou's evenness index and species richness presented an increasing trend. But from mixed coniferous and broadleaved forest communities to alpine Picea asperata communities and alpine Abies fabri communities, the Shannon-Wiener's diversity index,Pielou's evenness index and species richness presented an decreasing trend.View the situation as a whole, the diversity of broadleaved forest communities is higher than that of alpine Picea asperata and alpine Abies fabri communities. However, the Berger-Parker's dominance index presented a trend just on the contrary compared to Shannon-Wiener's diversity index,Pielou's evenness index and species richness. The result of species diversity of bark beetles in different forest communities showed that the species diversity and evenness indices decreased in the following sequence: Pinus tabulaeformis-Pinus armand-Quercus variabilis(community Ⅲ),Pinus tabulaeformis-Pinus armand-Quercus aliena var.acuteserrata (community Ⅱ),Pinus tabulaeformis-Pinus armand-Quercus liaotungensis (community Ⅳ),alpine Picea asperata(community Ⅴ),alpine Abies fabri(community Ⅵ)and hilly cultivated land(community Ⅰ).However, the dominance index presented a trend just on the contrary compared to diversity index and evenness index.Of the total collection of bark beetles specimens, which were extracted from host trees in different communities,21 species were identified. Finally, the paper discussed the following four questions: the role of bark beetles as indicators for different forest plant communities;the role of the elevation affecting the composition and distribution of plants and bark beetles in the forest ecosystem;the necessity of studying the different components and their interrelationship in forest ecosystem;the points for attention in taking further steps to deepen the study of species diversity in forest community. This paper would provide a new perspective for the research on the relationship between structure and diversity of bark beetles in different plant communities." @default.
