- W2367716557 abstract "Simple,environmentally friendly and economical procedure to mass-produce superhydrophobic surfaces has always been pursued.In this study,a novel process,thermal replica-molding followed by controlled peeling using a steel roller as template was developed to fabricate superhydrophobic surfaces of polyethylene(PE).Briefly,a steel roller was first micro-machined by rolling formation technique.Then a sheet of PE was melted on the roller surface in a vacuum oven.After being cooled to room temperature and peeled off from the roller,the PE superhydrophobic surface with static water contact angle of bigger than 150° and sliding angle of ～5° was produced.Scanning electron microscopy(SEM) images demonstrated that the roller surface exhibited regularly distributed shallow holes while the PE superhydrophobic surfaces had sparse peak-like structures surrounded by dense small spine-like structures.Heights and shapes of these structures on the PE surface showed that they were formed by not only replica-molding but also stretching from the roller surface.Because it adopted the steel roller as the template, it can be combined with the flow-casting process,a main technique for manufacturing plastic films,to produce polymer superhydrophobic films on a large scale." @default.
