- W2367719005 abstract "Using Von Zeipel's theorem and adopting Roche model, the difference between ab- solute magnitude of a rotating star with i=0° and another rotating star having the same mass, volume and rotational velocity but with i=90°,is computed in detail, the effect of limb-darkening being taken into consideration. The difference in mean effective tem- perature and therefore in spectral type is also computed. The derivation of the formulas used is given in part Ⅱ. β stands for the ratio of centrifugal acceleration to gravitational acceleration at points in the equatorial plane, whose distances from the centre are equal to the polar radius b.Computations are performed for four values of β,which correspond to the cases of critical rotation,B0,B5 and A0 stars respectively. For each of them com- putations are carried out for limb-darkening coefficient u=0.4,0.5,0.6,0.7,as well as for u=0.The computed values of M_e—M_p and (T_p—T_e)/(T_0) are given in Table 1 and Table 2 respectively, where M denotes absolute magnitude,T denotes mean effective temperature of stellar disk,T_0 denotes the effective temperature at the pole, while sub- script p refers to i=0° and e to i=90°.Given appropriate values of T_0 for each case, T_p-T_e is calculated, and the difference in spectral type is estimated and listed in Table 3. For the case of critical rotation we come to the following conclusion:If a Roche's configuration of critical rotation is in both hydrostatic and radiative equilibrium, and the effect of limb-darkening is ignored, then the difference in absolute magnitude be- tween i=0° and i=90° amounts to 0~m.95,independent of mass and dimensions. In particular, the results of computation for the case of A0 stars are applied to the discussion of the position of peculiar A stars on the Hertzsprung-Russell Diagram. If the peculiar A stars actually lie above the main sequence, difference in the inclinations of rotation axes can at most yield a difference in absolute magnitudes of 0~m.2,far below the amount of 1~m observed by Eggen." @default.
