- W2367769898 abstract "In order to comprehend the differences between Chinese and foreign event studies, this paper makes a quantitative comparison based on related research articles from Chinese CNKI Database and several important and authoritative international journals of tourism and event studies.554 event study articles from 1995 to 2010 were found in all, including 328 international articles and 226 Chinese ones.Firstly, the paper analyzes the general situation of Chinese and foreign event studies, and then makes classification and statistical analysis of the keyword, study methods, data sources, case areas of research, and researchers of these articles, using Content Analysis Method(CAM) and Bibliometric Method. The result indicates that the contents of event studies in China are generally coincident with those in foreign countries, but the extent of the contents of foreign study is more wide and balanced, especially in the fields of event expenditure, experience of event-goers and event volunteer where foreign studies have more and deeper research and findings.Several implications can be reached from the comparison of Chinese and foreign event studies in this paper.Chinese event studies should enhance the selection of hot topics, and pay attention to wider and more comprehensive contents of the planned-event phenomenon.Furthermore,a focus on the study of event's basic conceptions and related theories is necessary to develop the theoretical system of event study along with the specialty of contemporary China Mainland.Alternative qualitative or quantitative methods should be spontaneously utilized in Chinese event studies. And it is quite important to improve the study methods of event research from the multi-disciplinary perspective. Finally, there should be a better condition of international collaboration and communication in China Mainland,so as to improve the research capability and the academic influence of Chinese event studies." @default.
