- W2368400017 abstract "The present paper reports two new species of Vermipsylla from Tibet, China. Vermipsylla parallela Liu, Wu Wu, sp. nov.Allied to V. alakurt Schimkewitsch, 1885, but differs by the following diagnostic characters.Head. Occiput in male with hair-like bristles near the mid-dorsal line (Fig. 2).Thorax (Fig. 1). Collar of pronotum without pseudosetae, whereas that of mesono-tum with 2-3 pseudosetae on each side. Mid-tarsal segment I with a well-developed patch of 13-20 bristles, mid- and hind-tarsal segment V much widened at apex, and the group of plantar setae approaching base of the 3rd pair of plantar bristles (Figs. 8, 9).Abdomen. Abdominal terga with fewer rows of less numerous bristles than those of alakurt: terga Ⅱ-Ⅵ each bearing 2 rows of bristles (Fig. 7).Male. Immovable process of clasper situated far cephalad, forming a big antero-dorsal process; movable process finger-like and higher than immovable process; dorsal and ventral margins of clasper almost straight and parallel, for which character the name of the species is derived. Other features of clasper, sternum Ⅸ and aedeagus, as shown in Figs. 3, 4.Female. Hind margin of sternum VII almost straight; spermatheca with oval head and longer tail which is terminated by a sderotized papilla (Figs. 5, 6).Types. Holotype , allotype and 9 and 18 paratypes (body length: male 3-3.3 mm, female 3.46-5.53 mm) taken off cattle (Bos taurus domesticus) and Bos grunniens from Linzhi and Bomi, Tibet, in October, 1960 by Wu Foo-lin. Types deposited in the authors' collection.Vermipsylla asymmetrica Liu, Wu Wu, sp. nov.Allied to V. parallela, but differs markedly by the following diagnostic characters.Head. Occiput of male also with hair-like bristles near mid-dorsal line (Fig. 13).Thorax (Fig. 12). Of the four pairs of lateral plantar bristles of mid- and hind-tarsal segment V, the sites of 2nd pair being very asymmetrical; apex of mid- and hind-tarsal segment V much wider; mid- and hind-tarsal segment III and IV much flattened and triangular, both of their lateral lobes bearing a dense patch of bristles (Figs. 10,11).Abdomen. Abdominal terga with still fewer rows of less numerous bristles; all terga behind second abdominal segment essentially with only 1 row of bristles (Fig. 18).Male. Immovable process culminating dorsally in the center; movable process widened towards apex; inner side of clasper proper with a sderotized ridge behind anterior margin and another triangular-outlined ridge around acetabulum (Fig. 14). Sternum IX and aedeagus as shown in Fig. 15.Female. Tergum VIII apparently without bristles around the small spiracle and with a peculiar semi-circular incrassation. Spermatheca with a chitinized, spherical head and a short tail lacking papilla (Figs. 16, 17).Types. Holotype , allotype and 11 and 8 paratypes (body length of male 2.8-3.2 mm and that of female 3.1-5.82 mm) taken off Moschus moschiferus from Pengbo, Tibet, in June, 1963 by Wu Foo-lin. Types deposited in the authors' collection. The paper is appended with a revision on the characters of the genus Vermipsylla. Owing to the recent finding of several new species, our knowledge of the genus grows apace. The authors maintain three former characters of the genus: (1) frontal tubercle deciduous; (2) labial palpus with 10-14 segments reaching beyond the fore trochanter; (3) ventral scletites of abdomen not completely separated in mid-ventral line in either sex. They revise three other characters: (4) club of antenna slightly to quite longer than wide, their ratio being not greater than 1.5: 1, and tapering towards apex from about middle (may be before or after middle); (5) occiput in male with or without hair-like bristles near mid-dorsal line; (6) mesonotal collar with pseudosetae, and pronotal collar with or without pseudosetae. In addition, the authors consider the following characters to be of generic importance: (7) hind-tarsal segment I large and peculiarly shaped, its posterior margin with 2-3 notches; (8) tibiae of mid and hind legs with 6 notches, a character quite different from Dorcadia; (9) immovab" @default.
