- W2370732805 abstract "Objective To compare the physical growth and development of HIV positive and negative infants borne by HIV-infected mothers.Method A follow-up study including growth surveillance was conducted for infants at birth,3,6,9,12,15 and 18 months of age in 7 counties /districts of 4 provinces with high HIV prevalence from 2005-2008.An analysis was made to assess the growth and development indicators of 154 children at 18 months of age. Results From 2005 to 2008,there are 154 live newborns of 18-month to be selected in survey.Thereinto,22 of them were infected HIV and 132 of them do not take HIV.1.The length and weight of the HIV infected infants at 6-18 months was lower than those free of HIV infection(p0.05).The difference in age-related head circumference between the two groups had no statistical significance.2.The age-related weight for infants free of HIV infection was within the WHO standard before 6 months of age,but higher than the WHO standard after 6 months(p0.05).Z values for age-related weight(WAZ)and height-related weight(WHZ)were between-0.1 and 1.Age-related height had no statistically significant difference with the WHO standard at one year for both boys and girls, but was lower than the standard at 15-18 months of age(p0.05);Z values for age-related height(HAZ)and age-related head circumference ranged from-0.1 to-1.3.The weight and head circumference of the HIV-infected infants had no statistically significant difference with the WHO standard at any age,but their length was lower than the WHO standard at 15-18 months.Z values for age-related weight(WAZ)were between 0.2 and-0.6.WAZ declined quickly in children of 3 months, and then was at a low or stable level.HAZ went down from 0.1 to-1.7,which was close to-1 at 6-12 months, and lower than-1 at 15-18 months. Conclusion The physical growth and development of HIV negative infants borne by HIV-infected mothers was lower than the WHO standards, especially for length and head circumference, while the HIV positive infants borne by them had much lower growth and development indicators." @default.
