- W237112648 abstract "This chapter describes the status of research and development on ultrafast photoemission electron microscopy (PEEM) experiments over the last decade, with a special emphasis on converging to the ultimate goal of ultrafast microscopy with ultimate specifications on the spectral and temporal resolution. The coherent nature of the plasmonic excitation process giving rise to collective oscillations of the free metal electrons is (initially) controlled by the electrical field of the incident light pulse. The chapter discusses the theoretical proposal of attosecond nanoplasmonic field microscopy that triggered the experimental efforts. It describes the experimental developments and conceptual ideas of the Kleineberg group at Ludwig Maximilian University (LMU) Munich to realize this concept using a ToF-PEEM and a single attosecond high harmonic generation (HHG) source.
