- W2371306867 abstract "Objective To investigate the clinical characteristics and curative effects of severe alopecia areata. Methods The clinical data from 83 cases of severe alopecia areata were analyzed retrospectively. Results The mean age of patients was 27 years old (4～56 years old), and the age of 47 patients (56.6%) was ≤16 years. The average course was 7.6 months(3 weeks～3 years). 16 patients(19.3%) had family history of alopecia areta. Evidence of atopy was found in a total of 27 cases (32.5%). Nail changes were found in 21 patients (25.3%). In 12 cases (14.4%) complicated with autoimmune diseases vitiligo was found in 5 cases (6%), thyroid disorders in 5 cases (6%), diabetes mellitus in 2 cases (2.4% ). Nineteen patients (22.9% ) experienced stressful events preceding hair loss. All patients received a combined therapy, which included oral corticosteroids, Ganodermacapense (Lloyd) Teng injection, topical corticosteroids and minoxidil. Improvement at the end of 6 months was found in all patients. The untoward effects included pain of injection site (59 case, 70.1%)and wolly hair thickening of facial (21 case, 25.3%). Conclusions There is no significant difference between our findings and those previous studies, although there are disparities in family history and atopy. A combined therapy has a good curative effect for severe alopecia areata." @default.
