- W2371471462 abstract "Observations on the bionomics of four species of sandflies were ma- ??de in the desert area of Ejin Banner in 1979-1980.Phlebotomus majorwui is the predominant species with extensive resting places and has aclose relationship with man.The activity of adult sandfly is nocturnal, most of them flying out of the resting places during 20:00 to 21:00 andinto the resting places about mid-night.Its main places for act-ivity was dry river bed and desert hillock areas. This species can biteman indoors both day and night. The sandfly-season coveres three mo-nths.There is apparently only one generation in a year. The most im-portant resting placcs of P.mongolensis and P.andrejevi are burrows in-habited by the gerbils. The further to the gerbil's burrow, the less nu-mber of both species can be found.Man is the incidcntal host. Most ofboth species fly out of gerbil's burrows in 21:00—22:00.The restingplaces of the Sergentomyia minutus sinkianlensis is rather extensively distrib-uted,but a relative great portion of them is in deserted animal burrows.Feeding experimant showed that this species mainiy fed on lizards noton man and rodents. The population of this species is quite small, andits activity season commences in the last ten days of May and disappearsin the last ten days of August. The result of studies on the physiological age structure of four spe-cies in various places revealed that the field caves were not only its re-sting places but also its breeding places.According to the comparative studies on the bionomics and morpho-logy of P.major wui obtained in Ejin Banner, and the previous dataobtained in Tarim Basin, its shows that this species has apparentlydifferent geographic races.Based upon the different resting habits andfeeding habits,P.mongolensis may be classified into two types inChina. The number of sandflies had been obviously reduced in the areaswhere aerial spraying of insecticide had been performed for 6 consecutiveyears." @default.
