- W2371672092 abstract "Bicycle traffic has much effect on the capacities of turning movements at signalized intersections.This paper reviewed the prevailing analytical methods to calculate the turning movement capacities influenced by bicycles,used VISSIM to simulate the effect of bicycles,and calibrated the simulation model.A numerical example was then presented to compare the simulations with the existing analytical models.The numerical results indicate that the existing methods yield results that vary substantially.The capacities calculated by the methods of HCM(2000) and Chen(2007) fit in which the simulation experiment results better.It will result in underestimation of turning capacities to assume bicycle priority over turning vehicles,while it will lead the overestimation to merely consider the effects of bicycles crossing at the beginning of green indications.As the conflicting bicycle volumes increase,the impact of additional bicycles on vehicles decreases.The simulated capacities depend strongly on the mean turning speeds." @default.
