- W2371884554 abstract "WT5”BZ]〈Small World〉 is one of the most influential contemporary British novels introduced to the mainland of China in the 1990’s.During the past 10 years,few people probed its carnival spirit an important characteristic of 〈Small World〉.The article is to clarify its carnival spirit,based on the connection between Lodge’s writing and Bakhtin’s poetics.The first part is to discover the conformity between plots,personages of 〈Small World〉 and the Carnival of medieval folk squares,as well as the polyphony and spatial form.The second part is to show that 〈Small World〉 is a parody of medieval Chivalric Romances (Romance of King Arthur) from aspects of the romance source,theme and the ambiguity of both themes (waste and saving) and language (solemnity and joke).Finally it is concluded that 〈Small World〉 is full of carnival spirit." @default.
