- W2372238995 abstract "Purpose To investigate the efficacy of ph ac oemulsification or pars plana lensectomy combined with vitectomy in treatment of proliferative diabetic retinopathy and cataract. Methods Seventy-nine cases(105 eyes) with PDR and cata r act undergone 2 defferent combined surgeries from Feb 2000 to Dec 2003 in our hospital were reviewed,the cases diveded into 2 groups.Group 1 was the techniq ues included phacoemulsification combined vitrectomy,IOL was inserted into the intr o capsule,via the corneasleral incision.Group 2 was the techniques of lensectomy via the pars plana combined posterior segment surgeries.The anterior capsule wa s preserved and the epithelium was suctioned and scraped off.IOL was inserted vi a the corneascleral incision on the anterior capsule,of which the center area 4. 5～5 mm in diameter was cut. Results Seventy-nine cases of 105 eyes after surgery w ere followe d-up for 2 months to 3 years,postoperatively.There were significant difference between two groups in visual improvement (P0.05) which was achieved in 46 e yes in group 1,in 31 eyes in group 2,and visual acuity remained unchanged or dec reased in 10 eyes in group 1( 19.6%) and in 18 eyes in group 2(34.7%).Iris ne ovascularization (INV) occurred in one eye in group 1(1.8%) and 7 eyes in group 2(14.3%) during 1.5～11 months after surgery (P 0.05). Conclusions Group 1 is more effective than group 2.The surgery may improve the visual outcome obviously in the majority of selected eye s with less Significant complications and occurrence of iris neovascularization( INV)." @default.
