- W2372841346 abstract "Objective To explore the effect of different iodine intakes on child intelligence growth and psychomotor function. Methods According to the water iodine results of high iodine area, the surveillance spots were selected. Controls were set up too. Intelligence examination and psychomotor test were carried on in each group of students aging 7-14 years old. Results In 3 059 students enrolled, there were 1 597 boys and 1 462 girls. The result revealed that the student intelligence quotient (IQ) did not have an obvious difference in different genders (P 0.05),but had a statistical significance in different age groups (P 0.05). The student IQ in the excessive iodine group was obviously higher than that in the control group with statistical significance (P 0.01). The rate of low intelligence was obviously lower in excessive iodine group than that in the control group (P 0.01). There were 500 students who underwent psychomotor test. The result showed that the student psychomotor function in excessive iodine group was better than that in control group (P 0.05). IQ and psychomotor function presented a positive correlation(r = 0.332,P 0.05). In students with different IQ level, psychomotor function had significant differences, with more abnormality in those who had lower intelligence than those who had normal IQ (P 0.05). Conclusions No obvious effect of excessive iodine is found 'on mental development of school children. The result of psychomotor test in children with the different water iodine level has a significant difference. The psychomotor function and the intelligence level are positively correlated. The JPB psychomotor test is more suitable to detect the fine distinction of energetic movement due to injury of nervous system. A combination of intelligence examination and JPB psychomotor test can be used in screening or predicting the backward intelligence of children." @default.
