- W2373542893 abstract "Objective To compare the biological activities of a synthetic antimianrobial peptide PGG and its amidate PGG-NH2. Mehtods According to the method of NCCLS, to determine the minimal inhibitory concentration(MIC) of the antimicrobial peptide against E.coli and S.epidermidis. The minimal inhibitory concentration were also detected for antimicrobial activities against S.Aureus and P.aeruginosa under various concentrations of NaCl or MgCl2. Peptide was incubated with a freshly prepared erythrocyte suspension (5% hematocrit) and released hemoglobin was determined photometrically at 540 nm to evaluate hemolysis activity. And results are expressed as the percentage released with respect to sonicate controls (100% release). Results The MIC values of PGG-NH2 against E.coli and S.Epidermidis were 4 ～ 8 μg/mL and 8 ～ 16 μg/mL, respectively. Under elevated concentrations of NaCl or MgCl2, the peptides against S.Aureus and P.aeruginosa exhibited higher MICs, and PGG-NH2 showed relatively higher activity than PGG by the effect of different concentrations of NaCl or MgCl2. The peptide PGG-NH2 exhibited hemolytic activity below 10% at 100 μg/mL. Conclusion PGG-NH2 exhibit higher antimicrobial activity and ionic strength tolerance, but less hemolysis activity than PGG." @default.
