- W2374099173 abstract "Objective To study the interaction of phenobarbital (PB) and valproate (VPA) and their changes in serum. Methods There were 117 epileptic chidren who received both PB and VPA and 226 ones who received only PB or VPA. These patients were divided into 3 groups according their ages(1to 3,4 to 6,and 7 to 12years). Serum PB and VPA levels were compared in eachgroup and between the 3 groups. Results Serum levels of PB were significantly higher in two drug received patients than in single drug received ones( P 0 05, P 0 01). Serum VPA levels were significantly lower in 2 drug received patients than in single drug received patients of the 3 age different groups ( P 0 01),and serum VPA levels were significantly lower in 1～3 aged group than in 4～6 aged group ( P 0 01). Conclusion When the use of combination drugs (PB and VPA)to treat epileptic children, their serum PB levels significantly increase and serum VPA levels significantly decrease compared with the use of single drug. So the two drugsshould be taken under serum concentration monitoring." @default.
