- W2374673889 abstract "Objective To investigate the compatibility and degradation of huma n hair keratin(HHK) bridging for peripheral nerve defects and regeneration of th e peripheral nerve (PN) induced by HHK. Methods The sciatic nerve of SD rats wer e transected with a 10mm gap, then repaired by the polyactic-polylycolic acid ( PLGA) tube with HHK. At different time intervals(3rd,6th, 9th and 12th week)afte r operation, the histological examinations(HE staining), immunohistochemistry(an ti-S100, NF) and transmission electron microscope were used to explore the morp hological changes. Results Large numbers of Schwann cells and nerve fibers regen erating along HHK were observed under optical microscope, and the hair cuticle o f HHK was denudated and degraded at the 3rd week. After 6 weeks, there were plen ty of S100 positive cells and NF positive fibers, and homogenization of HHK occu rred. The degradation of HHK went on, and more and more Schwann cells and nerve fibers with remarkable polarity grew into the graft at 9th and 12th weeks. Espec ially, distinct myelination was observed under transmission electron microscope. Conclusion With controllable degradation rate and good biocompatibility, HHK ca n induce the PN regeneration and be used as scaffold material in tissue engineer ing research of PN." @default.
