- W2375783145 abstract "Raimon Panikkar,a cross-cultural philosopher in our times, proposed the idea of cosmotheandric intuition on a cross-cultural horizon, which means an open horizon with both diatopical and diachronical experiences of different religions and cultures as its basis. This intuition believes that reality(including every piece and parcel of reality) is constituted by three irreducible dimensions: the divine, the human and the earthly.Firstly, every being has an abyssal dimension, both transcendent and immanent.″Every being transcends everything——including perhaps most pointedly ′itself′,which in truth has no limits. It is,further, infinitely immanent,i.e.inexhaustible and unfathomable.″ Secondly, every real being exists within the range of the consciousness;it is thinkable, and by this fact tied up with human awareness. Finally, every being stands in the world and shares its secularity. There is nothing which enters human consciousness without at once entering into relation with the world. This intuition has many important implications for the contemporary world, such as silent God,three kairological moments of the human consciousness and the end of history. As for the vision of reality, there has been a dilemma baffling the contemporary Man: theism or atheism? Modern people have experienced an overall decline of the traditional theism, and questioned atheism as an adequate response to the ultimate problem of the meaning of existence.By cosmotheandric intuition,Panikkar understands the wisdom of Buddha's silence to the ultimate questions and further suggests that we should ″deontologize″ God,thinking about him in the category of ″onbeing″ instead of ″being″.Panikkar analyses human consciousness and finds three different fundamental attitudes to the cosmotheandric reality, which he calls ″three kairological moments of consciousness″: the ecumenical moment, the economic moment and the Catholic moment. In the ecumenical moment, the Earth is the center of the world and the Divine and the Man are subsumed in Nature. The vision of reality is cosmocentric. The economic moment could be characterized by the scientific mentality and the humanistic attitude.Man is at the center of everything.Man is above Nature and the Divine(acknowledged or not) is hidden in Man.His home is no longer the Earth but the ideal world. Here the vision of reality is anthropocentric.Panikkar points out that we are obviously still too immersed in this period to have a critical perspective on it.He suggests that we should be aware of its limits and try to overcome its absolute grip on the modern Man.The third period is the Catholic moment. In this period, the different spheres of being and the several forms of consciousness strive toward a complex unity;the dispersed pieces of the second moment are drawn toward reconstruction;Man's body becomes once again a constitutive part of himself and the World reappears as the greater body in which Man is integrated. The vertical or divine dimension is no longer projected onto ″another″ being, but experienced as the infinite dimension of reality itself. This is a more integrated experience and the cosmotheadric vision of reality.Panikkar's theory of the end of history is based on his insight into human time-consciousness.According to this insight, human time-consciousness has a threefold structure: non-historical consciousness, historical consciousness and transhistorical consciousness. In the nonhistorical consciousness,Man lives mainly in space. His time is cosmic and non-historical.But in historical consciousness, time is no longer cosmic but human and historical, moving so much with the sun as with the clock.Panikkar points out that historical time is not just human time, although historical Man tends to identify them.It is this identification that gives birth to the myth of history.Historical time is that particular time-consciousness which believes in the autonomy of the ″human″ race vis-a-vis the time of terrestrial and supraterrestrial entities. And this historical time is mainly understood as the thrust toward the future,in which the fullness of existence or definitive welfare will be achieved. But now this historical consciousness is in crisis.Out of the despair of the future, people tend to believe that the meaning of life lies not in the future, nor in reforming society or reforming nature, but in life itself and in living out the present and the actual depth of life. This is the emerging transhistorical consciousness, which means the end of history, the end of the myth of history." @default.
