- W2376410486 abstract "Objective:To evaluate the MRI features of optic nerve and subarachnoid space in the normal adults and to establish the normal standards of them by measurement on MRI.Methods:There were 42 healthy adult volunteers,they were divided into three groups according to their sex and age(18～40,41～60,60 years old).The 1.0 T superconductive magnetic resonance imaging instrument and circularly provocated round cranial coil were used to obtain the images of the intraorbital optic nerves.Base on the obligue sagittal plane the obligue coronal plane scanning of the orbit vertical to the optic nerve was performed with fatsuppression turbo-spin echo sequence.The scanning points were at the points of 4 mm and 8 mm retrobulbarly and the orbital apex.Results:The diameter of the optic nerve varied from large in anterior part to small in posterior part of the orbit.Mean nerve diameters were 2.94±0.22 mm anteriorly to 2.24±0.24 mm posteriorly,As for the width of the subarachnoid space,similar changes were found,Mean sheath diameters were 5.25±0.24 mm anteriorly to 3.56±0.32 mm posteriorly.The area of the subarchnoid space became smaller and smaller,but the rate of one track to another became larger and larger.There were not obvious different between sex and age of individuals.Conclusion:MRI can accurately exhibit the optic nerve and subarachnoid space and its results are well correlated with those of the anatomical studies,therefore,MRI provides objective quantitative standard for evaluation of the optic nerve and subarachnoid space,meanwhile,MRI is a good imaging diagnostic method for the optic nerve and its lesions.
