- W2377966412 abstract "Objective To promote more understanding of malignant bone neoplasms and to avoid its misdiagnosis in children.Methods Misdiagnosis of 4 patients with malignant bone neoplasms was reviewed.The lesions were considered at first as nontumorous disease by clinical manifestation and radiograph.It was eventually diagnosed as malignant bone neoplasms histologically.The patient with primary non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in T9 vertebral body had an emergent thoracic laminectomy because of spinal cord compression,and meanwhile the vertebral body of lesion and the epidural tumor was resected.At the rest patients(primary non-Hodgkin's lymphoma of right ilium,osteosarcoma of right femur and Ewing's sarcoma of right femur),the surgical decision was to proceed with excisional biopsy at the diseased region to allow definitive diagnosis for further treatment planning.Results Lesions in 4 patients were misdiagnosed;there were three cases of osteomyelitis,and one case of bone tuberculosis.The four patients were followed up for a mean of 18.9(9～42)months.At the time of the latest follow-up,two patients survived without recurrence of neoplasms and two patients presented metastatic tumor of lung.Conclusions The main causes of misdiagnosis are excessive dependence on or neglect the feature on imageology,the disregard of discrepancy between clinical manifestation and imaging features,and deficient professional knowledge for rarely malignant bone neoplasms.Early diagnosis and therapy are very important for enhancing the survival rate of patients with malignant bone neoplasms." @default.
