- W2378164044 abstract "In order to investigate the effect of iron on the growth of Microcystis aeruginosa,this paper is to make an investigative study over the effect of the iron concentration on the cell activity and its in- tegrity,the toxin production.As is known,water bloom caused by the mass rearing of algae is likely to lead to a serious detriment to the surrounding water environment.For our research purpose,we have adopted MA culture media as growth media at different concentrations of FeCl_3 and the algae cells in logarithmic growth phase inoculated in- to the growth media.During the growth under different iron concen- trations,it is necessary to measure the cell density,integrity,activity of dehydrogenase,as well as MCLR content.The testing and measur- ing results can then be mainly inspected and determined by cell ac- counting,neutral red staining method,TTC-dehydrogenase assay and HPLC.The results of our investigation indicate that the cell activity and toxin production tend to be noticeably inhibited without iron in the growth media.However,iron concentrations were found with no influence on the cell integrality,for neutral red staining rate was found to be finally below 3 % basically.In so doing,on the 24th day after the inoculation,algae cells would come into logarithmic growth phase.However,iron concentrations were found to have little effect on the cell density before the logarithmic growth,though they may have more and more noticeable influence on the cell densities after that.The increase of Fe~(3+)concentration proves to be advantageous to the growth of algae cells,whose cell density tends to reach their max- imum value of 4.5×10~(10)cells/L when the Fe~(3+)concentration was 0.42 mg/L.Whereas the dehydrogenase activity of algae cells is likely to get slower under lower or higher Fe~(3+)concentration with the optimum value of 0.04 mg/L,the toxin production can be inhibited under a lower or higher Fe~(3+)concentration with the optimum value being 0.10 mg/L,which can even produce 0.32 mg MCLR per 10~(10) cells.Thus,it can be seen that the optimal growing condition is like- ly to get uniformed to the toxin production." @default.
