- W2378716963 abstract "The American contemporary translation theorist Lawrence Venuti promotes the concept of the ethics of difference,which aims at respecting differences,as means to challenge Euro-American Centralism popular in the Western translation world.However,the concept easily leaves an extreme image to critics,who suspect it is an extremistic value orientation under the binary opposition of foreinization/ domestication.This paper puts this concept under the view of Karl Marx's hermeneutics of praxis,pointing out that the ethics of difference resides on the translator's moral attitude toward difference,rather than on its choice of foreinization or domestication.By making the ethics of difference more inclusive and flexible,this argument effaces its extreme image and misinterpretations,which highlights the practical value of the concept and restores Venuti's original intention." @default.
