• W2378729338 abstract "Objective To study the influence of hyperbaric oxygen(HBO) on the contents of plasma endothelin 1(ET 1) and nitric oxide(NO) and their relationships with cerebral hemodynamics in neonatal hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy(HIE). Methods At the first time pre HBO and after HBO, the cerebral blood flow data of fifty two neonates with HIE, peak systolic velocity(Vs), end distolic velocity(Vd), pulsatility index(PI) and resistance index(RI) of both left and right anterior, middle and posterior cerebral artery of 52 HIE neonates and also of 15 normal neonates(as control) were detected by transcranial color Doppler ultrasound(TCD) before and after the first time HBO exposure. At the same time, serum NO levels were measured with nitrate reductase and plasma ET 1 contents were detected by radio immunoassay. Results (1) As compared with control, the Vd and Vs in light group showed regional decrease. Vd in moderate and severe groups showed extensive decrease especially in severe cases( P 0 05), but Vs was only regionally decreased. After HBO exposure, there were no significant differences between HIE groups and the control except the Vd of LMCA in the severe group was still lower than the control. (2) There were no marked differences of PI and RI between light group and those of control. The PI and RI were regionally increased in moderate group and extensively increased both sides in severe group( P 0 05). After HBO exposure, the PI and RI of HIE neonates were decreased and there were no marked differences as compared with the control. (3) Plasma ET 1 and NO levels of HIE groups were higher than those of control, besides the changes were correlated positively with the severity of disease. But the values of NO/ET 1 of HIE groups were much lower than those of control( P 0 05) with severe groupmoderate grouplight group. After HBO exposure, in the HIE groups, the plasma ET 1 levels were lowered and serum NO levels were elevated( P 0 05), so that the values of NO/ET 1 were inereased, but there were no significant differences between all the groups. Conclusions HBO can dilate cerebral blood vessel and improve cerebral blood supply through its influence on plasma ET 1 and NO levels, therefore it could protect the brain from hypoxic ischemic damage." @default.
