- W2378889626 abstract "This study focuses on the interactions of Hg (II) with microbial biofilms on the basis of a simulated system in which the bacteria isolated from suspended particulate matter in the subtropical——Yangtze River and classified as Kluyvera cryocrescens were attached to kaolinite. TOC was the indicator of biomass in the simulated system. The mercury absorbed by bacteria was digested and measured after BrCl oxidation by CVAAS. The kinetic adsorption of resting cell——kaolinite and inactived cell——kaolinite revealed significant differences between the two systems of adsorbents as follows: (1) the mercury adsorption capacity of the resting cell kaolinite was higher than that of the inactived cell kaolinite; (2) the adsorption of resting cell kaolinite increased within 2h and then rapidly decreased from 0.72 μg/g cell(dry weight) to 0.56 μg/g cell. The difference in the affinity to Hg(II) may be attributed to the loss of the metal binding sites of the inactived cell kaolinite during the autoclave treatment, whereas the mercury decline on resting cell kaolinite may be explained by reduction reaction followed by volatilization of Hg(0) because a toxic test on Kluyvera cryocrescens indicated that the bacterial could resist to a high concentration of Hg(II) up to 10.00 mg/L." @default.
