- W2379065260 abstract "Objective To investigate the knowledge, attitudes, and practice about AIDS/STD among the floating populations in Pudong New District, Shanghai.Methods Focus group discussions were conducted among 53 workers of restaurant, beauty parlors, hotel, etc. immigrating from other parts of China, 21 males and 32 females, aged 17～33.Results All of them had superficial knowledge of AIDS/ STD. Most of them knew the sexual transmission and blood borne transmission of HIV and heard of condom use, however, most of the young females failed to use it.Few of them knew the vertical transmission of HIV. The sources of AIDS/STD knowledge were TV programs, periodicals, advertisements in streets, health class in school, etc. Some of them expressed they would not discriminate against people with AIDS/STD. Most of the male respondents and most female 25 expressed their understanding of extra marital sex, however, some of the females 25 opposed extra marital sex. Most of them showed their needs for AIDS/STD health education, especially free education. Conclusion Most of the floating populations in Pudong New District lack necessary AIDS/STD knowledge and self protection skills." @default.
