- W2379561912 abstract "Based on Chinese General Social Survey(CGSS) data, this article analyzed the influence of public expenditure of local governments on subjective well-being of rural citizens. Some conclusions are made:(1) the increase in public expenditure will enhance the subjective well-being of rural citizens. The influence of public expenditure on subjective well-being of rural citizens is achieved mainly through the increase in the consumption of rural citizens.Under the control of the consumption, the effect of public expenditure diminishes;(2) Through the analysis of public expenditure,it is found that social expenditure, like education, public health and social insurance,is the significant expenditure in enhancing subjective well-being of rural citizens.Whereas, there is no critical influence on other expenditure;(3) there is significant difference between public expenditure and subjective well-being of rural citizens of different income levels. It exerts the greatest influence upon the subjective well-being of rural citizens of lower income. They have lower consumption level and rely more on the public expenditure. This further confirms that it is through the increase of consumption that public expenditure influences subjective well-being of rural citizens.Based on this, the increase in public expenditure, especially social expenditure,is the critical method to enhance subjective well-being of rural citizens.Besides, public expenditure should focus more on the poor." @default.
