- W2380072345 abstract "Aim: To probe factors related to short stature for middle school students. Methods: The method of 1∶ 1 matched case control was adopted. The students whose height for age and sex was lower than the scope of -2 s were defined as cases (short stature).Those of the same age,sex,nationality, and school with the height at the range of ～ +2 s were taken as the controls (normal stature). All selected middle school students were given questionnaires and anthropometric assessment. Their hair trace element (Ca, Zn, Cu, and Fe), serum testosterone(T), and growth hormone(GH) were measured. Results: The incidence rate of short stature students was 3.21 %(104/3 240); the dystocia history, partiality for particular foods and less sports for case group were significantly higher than those of control group. The serum T content and mean birth weight for case group ( =869.7 ng/L) was significantly lower than that of the control group. Conclusions: The dystocia history, low birth weight, partiality for particular foods, and less sports were associated with the development of short stature. The lower T content may be the direct endocrine factor resulting in male short stature." @default.
