- W2380499389 abstract "This paper presents three species, of mammals from North-eastern China, which were not included in our previous report (1958). One is an insectivore, Sorex dephaenodon Thomas; the other two are bats, Myotis longicautatus Ognev and Marina leucogaster Milne-Edwards. Myotis longicaudatus is a new record to the Chinese mammalian fauna.Sorex daphaenodon Thomas, 1907(pl. 1-4)A series of 9 specimens were collected from Shi-Kwei-Tu-Chi (喜桂图旗), Ur-Gu-Na-Chi (额尔古纳旗) of the Inner Mongolia Autonomus Region and the An-Tu District (安图县) of Kirin Province. It is a median-sized shrew, with an average body weight of about 7 grams. The length of head and body is about 52-57 mm., and the tail is a little longer than half of the total length of head and body. Above darker grayish-buffy; below grayish-white with a light buffy tinge. The skull resembles that of Sorex araneus, but its brain case is higher. The anterior two upper vnicuspid teeth are equal in size and as high as the posterior cusp o?the upper incisor, which is slightly lower than the anterior one. The succeeding two unicuspids are slightly smaller in side view. The fifth upper unicuspid is slightly smaller again and stands by the inner side of the tooth row. The hypocone of the first upper molar is well developed and with deep red color. All the cusps of the unicuspids and incisors are very blunt and deeply reddish in color, by which characters this species may be distinguished from all the other members of the genus Sorex.Body weight, 5.2-9.5 gms. Head and body, 52-72; tail, 27-37; hind foot, 10-13; condylo-basal length, 17.5-18.5; height of brain case, 5.7-6.5; breadth between interorbital foramen, 2.3 - 2.5, greatest width of brain case, 9.0-9.4; upper tooth row, 7.6 - 7.9; lower tooth row, 7.0 - 8.5 mm.The distribution of S. daphaeno'don is very close to that of S. araneus and S.caecutieus.Myotis longicaudatus Ognev, 1927 (pl. 5-8)The Long-tailed Bat collected from Hu-Mar District (呼玛县), Hei-Lung-Kiang Province, differs from all the other members of genus Myotis heretofore recorded from North-eastern China by having the tail a little longer than the total length of head and body. The inner margin of its ear with an angle at the base is also characteristic of that genus. The skull is rather shorten and broadened. The first upper premolar (Pm1) is rather small and slightly crowded inward from the tooth row. The second upper premolar is even small and simple in its structure, which stands almost outside of the tooth row, thus the cingulum of Pm1 and the large upper premolar (PmP) being in contact with each other. The lower second premolar (pm2) is rather small and stands by the inner side of the tooth row.Measurements as follows: head and body, 44; tail, 46; fore-arm, 38.5; condylo-basal length, 13.3; interorbital breadth, 4.1; width of brain case, 7.8; height of brain case, 6.7; width of rostrum, 4.3; upper tooth row, 5.4 mm.The discovery of this Long-tailed Bat from North-eastern China is not only a new record of mammals from China but is also of interest to the mammalian fauna of the world. According to Kuzyakin (1950), only three specimens had been known to science, all collected from the U.S.S.R. Our specimen is smaller than the other three recorded from U.S.S.R.Ellermann and Morrison-Scott (1951) regard this species as a race of M. frater. I have not examined the specimens of M. frater. From descriptions of M. jrater by G. Allen (1923, 1938), I find that M. jrater is without an angle at the base of inner margin of the ear, which is very evident in M. longicaudatus. The distribution ranges of the two species thus far known are also far separated. Tate (1941) placed M. longicaudatus in the section Emarginatus, but the tail is too long for that section. Widi these points in view, I prefer to retain M. longicaudalm as a separate species till more material is available for making comparisons.Marina leaeogeuter Milne-Edwards, 1872(pl. 9-12)One specimen was secured from Ur-Gu-Nar-Chi (额尔古纳旗), Inner Mongolia Autono-" @default.
