- W2381082520 abstract "Objective To study use of BMI/Kaup index in assessment of obesity in pediatrics and how to define the cut off point of obesity Methods To screen obese children according to WHO reference population and the standard,we analyzed data of 167 065 children 0～7 years of age from 8 cities of China and compared the cut off points of obese/non obese children and used them to assess obesity in adulthood Results In confirmed obese children, the BMI/kaup index of 18～25 was seen in 91 8% of boys and 84 5% of girls; 2 6% of boys and 2 8% of girls had an index higher than 26 There were 5 6% of boys and 12 8% of girls with the index between 15 and 18, none had an index less than 15 Contrarily, in the control group, 87 5% of boys and 85 4% of girls had a BMI/Kaup index less than 18; 12 5% of boys and 14 6% of girls had the indexes of 18 25, none had an index higher than 25 Obviously, the cut off point of 18 is suitable for Chinese children in assessment for obesity Conclusion Using the same cut off point of BMI/Kaup index to assess obesity in both childhood and adulthood is not reasonable The cut off point 18 is suitable for assessment of obesity in Chinese children" @default.
