- W2381471999 abstract "Objective: To review the experience of diagnosis and surgical repair of aortic origin of the right or left pulmonary artery (AOPA) at Anzhen Hospital from March 1993 to November 2004.Methods:Sixteen patients were diagnosed as having anomalous origin of the right or left pulmonary artery from ascending aorta. There were 11 males and 5 females, ranging from 2 months to 30 (9.4±10.2) years. Of the 16 patients, 11 had anomalons origin of right pulmonary artery from ascending aorta (RPA-AAO),and the others of left pulmonary artery from ascending aorta(LPA-AAO). Nine patients were associated with patent ductus arteriosus (PDA), 5 with tetralogy of Fallot and 2 with ventricular septal defect (VSD). Twelve patients were operated on with the implantation of the AOPA to the main pulmonary artery, including direct anastomosis (n=4), interposition of homograft (n=4) and a synthetic graft (n=1), and an autologous pericardial patch (n=3). The other 4 pationts were medically treated. Results: Twelve patients were treated by surgical operation, ten were cured and two died. One patient died 24 days after operation from respiratory failure and the other one died from early postoperative pulmonary hypertension crisis. During a follow-up of 10 months to 9 years, the survival rate was 100%. None of the patients required reoperation during the follow-up.Conclusion:Pationts with RPA-AAO or LPA-AAO can be get much benefit from operation, but they are often misdiagnosed by echocardiography." @default.
