- W2382992116 abstract "Since laser has been used as a powerful excitation source and inductively coupled plasma (ICP) has gained great popularity as an atomization/ioniza- tion source for atomic fluorescence spectrometry (AFS) in the past few years, the combination of Laser-ICP-AFS has shown to be an excellent system for low limit of detection(LOD) in single element and multi-element determinations, This paper will be concerned with some actual use of Laser-ICP—AFS and discussion of spatial distribution profiles of some atoms and ions in ICP: (1)The combination of an excimer (XeCl) pumped pulsed dye laser with frequency-doubled output as an excitation source and the ICP as an atom/ ion reservoir was used in the study of AFS of Ag,Au,Hf,Ir,Mo,Nb, Pd,Pt,Ru,Ta and Zr.The detection limits were found to be in the range of 1.3-58 ng mL~(-1) (ppb) with a linear dynamic range (LDR) of over four orders of magnitude, except for Au and Hf;(2) Radial distribution profiles of ground state atoms and/or ions for Ca,Mn and Cu in ICP have been measured. As a comparison, radial emission profiles have also been measured with an Abel-inversion procedure. In our low flow nebulizer plasma system at low observation heights (5 and 10mm above the load coil),the profiles of excited state atoms and ions resemble each other with a minimum in the center of the plasma. The profiles of ground state atoms and ions,however,pos- sess a bell shape except for Ca ground state ions which have a double-peaked distribution;(3)Relative laser excited fluorescence and emission intensities as a function of RF power for the extended ICP torch were also measured for Ca(Ⅰ),Ca(Ⅱ),Ba(Ⅰ),Ba(Ⅱ),Mg(Ⅰ),Mg(Ⅱ),Na(Ⅰ),and Cu(Ⅰ) and found to show in most cases unexpected behavior compared to previous studies with the conventional short ICP torch.Although the extented torch has found some use for laser excited-ICP-fluorescence and ICP excited-ICP fluorescence, researchers should be wary of unexpected variations with power and substantial ionization interferences." @default.
