- W2383469785 abstract "Female and male Ginkgo biloba seedlings were used to investigate physiological and biochemical responses to exogenous proline (Pro) application (2 mmol·L-1 ), irrigated NaCl (40 mmol·L-1 ) solution, and the combined effect of the exogenous Pro and NaCl solution treatments. The results showed that the net photosynthetic rate (Pn ), superoxide dismutase (SOD) and peroxidas (POD) activities of females and males under salt stress decreased compared to the control group. Females’Pn , SOD and POD were decreased 45.87%, 22.96%, and 61.37%, and males’ were decreased 42.75%, 23.18%, and 7.36%, respectively. However, the intercellular CO2 concentration (Ci ), catalase (CAT) activity, free Pro and protein contents of both individuals suffered salt stress showed increasing tendency. Females’ Ci , CAT activity, Pro and protein contents were increased 2.95%, 68.10%, 30.54%, and 62.58%, and males’ were increased 8.10%, 10.18%, 57.77%, and 57.72%, respectively. Furthermore, exogenous Pro enhanced Pn , ascorbate peroxidase (APX) activity and leaf relative water content of female and male G. biloba seedlings treated with NaCl solution. The above mentioned parameters were increased 91.58%, 32.87%, and 4.65% in female seedlings, and were increased 18.99%, 7.24%, and 10.06% in male seedlings, respectively. Nevertheless, endogenous Pro contents of female and male seedlings under salinity were differently reduced because of exogenous Pro application, and the parameter of females exhibited a higher variable extent compared to males. In conclusion, we inferred that G. biloba as a species of gymnospermae, female seedling had more effective abilities in resisting salt stress than male plant. Moreover, exogenous Pro manifested a higher capacity on relieving salt-induced damage to females compared to males." @default.
