- W2383996914 abstract "Objective To investigate the effect of fructose on body weight and non-fasting plasma glucose of type Ⅱ diabetes mellitus ICR mice induced by high fat diet and streptozotocin.Methods Twenty ICR mice(21 d) were exposed to high fat diet(HFD),high fat diet-3% fructose(HFDF) and standard rodent chow,respectively.After exposure to the diets for 6 weeks,mice were injected intraperitoneally with either STZ 100 mg/kg body weight or vehicle(0.1 mol/L citric acid buffer,pH 4.5) and kept on the same diet for the next 6 weeks.Body weight was recorded weekly,and non-fasting blood glucose was measured before and at 1~4 weeks post STZ.Results The body weights of HFD-fed and HFDF-fed male mice were significantly higher than those of the chow-fed mice(P0.05),but there was no significant difference in body weight between HFD-fed and HFDF-fed male mice(P0.05);body weights of HFDF-fed female mice were significantly lower than those of the HFD-fed mice(P0.05),and there was no obvious difference in body weights between HFD-fed and chow-fed female mice or between HFDF-fed and chow-fed female mice(P0.05).The blood glucoses of HFD-fed and HFDF-fed mice were statistically higher than those of chow-fed mice(P0.01) after exposure to the respective diets for 6 weeks,in both sex,but there was no difference between HFD-fed and HFDF-fed mice.Both blood glucoses of HFD-fed and HFDF-fed male mice were greater than 11 mmol/L(standard value for non-fasting blood glucose of diabetes mellitus model in mice),whereas it was not observed in female mice.Conclusion HFDF-feeding improves increasing of non-fasting blood glucose significantly than HFD-diet in male mice,but it does not improve the development of obesity in diabetes mellitus ICR mice induced by HFD-STZ in both sex.HFDF-feeding is not beneficial to developing type Ⅱ diabetes mellitus model in ICR mice because the concentration of plasma glucose increases too fast." @default.
