- W2384006132 abstract "Objective: To observe the brain glycogen metabolism induced by an exhaustive exercise and the changes of brain glycogen in different brain regions.Methods:48 C57/BL mice were randomly divided into the sedentary control group(SC),exhausted swimming group(SE) and creatine supplemented exhausted swimming group(CE).Creatine was intraperitoneal injected 30 min before swimming, while saline solution was injected as a placebo to SE group. After swimming the cortex, thalamus, striatum, hippocampus, brainstem and cerebellum were collected and measured their brain glycogen levels using high-power microwave irradiation. Results: 1) The creatine supplement significantly prolonged mice to the exhausted condition compared with SE group;2) Blood glucose levels of SE group,CE group were lower than those of SC group. Moreover, blood lactic acid of CE group was accumulated higher than that of SE group;3) At the end of exhaustive swimming, the brain glucose levels significantly decreased in both SE group and CE group accompanying with accumulated brain lactic acid. And the brain glycogen levels decreased significantly by 51%~61% in four discrete brain loci(the cortex 52%,hippocampus 60%,brainstem 51%,cerebellum 61%),as well the creatine supplement(the cortex 57%,hippocampus 54%,brainstem 63%,cerebellum 45%) compared to those of the sedentary control(P0.01).There was no significant difference in the thalamus and striatum compared with those of the control. Conclusion: The brain glycogen could decrease with prolonged exhaustive exercise. The hypoglycaemia should be associated with the development of decreased brain glycogen and accumulated brain lactic acid.Exogenous creatine supplement would facilitate prolonging the time till exhaustion, but that have no effect on the hypoglycaemia and brain glycogen metabolism." @default.
