- W2384051036 abstract "The concentrations of serum growth hormone (GH), Insulin (INS), Thyroxin (T 4) and Triiodothyonine (T 3) were firstly measured once of two months annually to trace the dynamics of 3 continuous ages of growing yak (5～15, 17～27 and 29～39 month old, namely G1, G2 and G3). The results showed that there are no sex differences in concentrations of the 4 kinds of hormones at the ages of 5～39 months old. The average serum concentration of GH, INS, T 4 and T 3 were (1.635±0.914) ng·mL -1 , (261.916±85.987) μg·mL -1 , (46.775±17.74) ng·mL -1 and (1.190±0.707) ng·mL -1 respectively. Concentrations of the 4 serum hormones among the 3 ages and month-seasons were significantly different. The concentrations of GH, INS and T 4 decreased from January to March, especially of GH, which decreased sharply from 2.913 ng·mL -1 in January to 0.793 ng·mL -1 in March, which was obviously due to severe coldness(usually bellow -20℃) and starvation and favored to the catabolic pathway of metabolism of tissues for survival. The concentrations of INS, T 4 and T 3 were in consistent with the grass nutrient supplement in warm seasons and implied to enhance the synthetic processes. GH concentration kept stable or a little increased while the yak gained about 600～700 g per day during this time, which verified that the sensitivity of hormone receptor was increased under rich grass nutrients supplement in warm seasons. The correlation coefficient of average concentrations of INS and T 4 with average daily gain reached 0.738( P 0.01) and 0.805( P 0.01) respectively, which demonstrated that they are important economic traits, and can be used as indicators for monitoring the nourishment state of the growing yak." @default.
