- W2384503426 abstract "Objective: To investigate the difference in passive permeability of cells to calcium between essential hypertension (EH) and secondary hypertension (SH) and the effects of felodipine on them. Methods: Thirty eight hypertensives were divided into the EH group (n=20) and SH group (n=18). The 18 patients with SH included 5 with renovascular hypertension (RH subgroup), 7 with renal parenchymal hypertension (PH subgroup) and 6 with endocrine hypertension (EHT subgroup). Each patient had an age and sex matched control subject. The 45Ca2+ uptake into ATP depleted erythrocytes during 15 min to 3 h incubation was determined with liquid scintillation counting. Plasma renin activity (PRA) and angiotensin Ⅱ (AⅡ) were measured with radioimmunoassay. After the treatment with felodipine, the hypertensives were re examined by the method mentioned above. Results: The 45Ca2+ uptake into ATP depleted erythrocytes at various time were significantly higher but the PRA and AⅡ lower in EH group than in SH and control groups. PRA, AⅡ and 45Ca2+ uptake into the erythrocytes at the 15th min and 1st h were higher in RH subgroup than in the control. In EH group, diastolic blood pressure was positively correlated with 45Ca2+ uptake at various time. In RH subgroup, diastolic blood pressure and AII were positively correlated with 45Ca2+ uptake in the erythrocytes at the 1st h. After the treatment with felodipine for 2 weeks, the 45Ca2+ was decreased but PRA and AII increased in EH group. Conclusion: The increased membrane permeability to Ca2+ participates in the pathogenesis of EH. There is a different phenomenon of membrane permeability to Ca2+ in SH. The increased Ca2+ uptake into the erythrocytes in RH patients may be resulted from increased AII level. Felodipine can partially correct the abnormality." @default.
