- W2384509213 abstract "Two new species of mermithid nematodes were collected from the infected larvae of Agrotis ipsilon in Taihu County 30°8'N 116°17'E, latitude, Anhui Province in 1986. They are identified as two new species of the genus Hexamermis, Hexamermis taihuensis sp. nov. and Hexamermis heterocephalis sp. nov., It has been found that they could control the black cutworm in Shuangqiao village.Hexamermis taihuensis sp. nov. (figs. 1-7)Adults:Body small, cuticle with obvious crisscross fibers; head attenuated, six cephalic papillae arranged in one plane, on both the left and the right sides, mouth terminal; amphids small, rod-shaped, situated slightly behind and dorsal to the lateral cephalic papillae; six hypodermal cords; the lateral cords containing two rows of nuclei in cross section; vulva slightly protruding, located posterior to midregion, vagina U-shaped, spicules paired, separate, slightly curved, longer than the body width at the cloaca, genital papillae arranged in four rows.Postparasitic larvae with a cuticular appendage which is shed with the last molt.Type specimens:Holotype (male), allotype (female) and paratypes (12♂♂, 12♀♀) are deposited in the Department of Biology, Central China Normal University, Wuhan, Hubei, P. R. China.Diagnosis:H. taihuensis resembles H. elongata in the shape and location of amphids and the arrangement of genital papillae. However, the following three characters clearly separate these two species: (Ⅰ) The vulva of the former protrudes, the widthes at the anterior part and tie posterior part of the vagina are similar, but that of the latter does not protrude and its anterior part of vagina is obviously thicker. (Ⅱ) The vulva of the former locates posterior to midregion, but that of the latter anterior to midregion. (Ⅲ) The relative ratio between the length of the spicules and the width at the cloaca in the former is larger than that of the latter.H. taihuensis differs from all other previously described species of Hexamermis in the shape of the amphids and cephalic papillae, and the rows of the genital papillae.Hexamermis heterocephalis sp. nov. (figs. 8-17)Adults:Body elongate, bead shape different in female and male, female cone-shaped, male flat and slightly rounded, cuticle with distinct crisscross fibers; six cephalic papillae arranged in one plane, on the left and the right sides; mouth terminal; amphids chilli-shaped, situated in the lateral cephalic papillary nerve endings, six hypodermal cords; lateral cords containing 1-3 rows of nuclei in cross section; vagina U-shaped; spicules paired, separate, slightly curved, shorter than the body width at the cloaca in most samples, genital papillae arranged in six rows.Postparasitic larvae with a cuticular appendage which is shed with the last molt.Type specimens:Holotype (female), allotype (male) and paratype (11♂♂, 9♀♀) are deposited in the Department of Biology, Central China Normal University, Wuhan, Hubei, P. R. China. The present species resembles Hexamermis lineata in the shape of female head and arrangement of genital papillae, but the shapes of amphids of them are different. The spicule of the former is equal or shorter than the body width at the cloaca, and the latter is greater. The preanal genital papillae of the former are fewer than the postanal, whereas in the latter, (hey are equal in amount." @default.
