- W2384518596 abstract "The well was an important public facility in traditional villages.This paper studies the wells of villages in Shanxi province since the Ming and Qing dynasties.Based on wells tablets collected by the author during the fieldwork,the thesis tries to study the wells in villages from the angle of social history.There are on average 1 to 4 wells in a village if the natural conditions allowed.The well affairs mainly included group discussion,fund raising and election of a headman-in-charge,etc.The wells played very special role in the village space construction and we can see how the power networks mingled through the well affairs." @default.
