- W2384594831 abstract "Background: The major manifestation of functional constipation(FC) is often described as the disturbance of colonic function, and colonic transit time(CCT) is the main indicator which can reflect the function of colonic motility.Aims: To investigate the role of radioopaque markers method in evaluating the colonic transit function and the diagnosis of FC.Methods: The radioopaque markers method was used to evaluate total colonic transit time(TCCT),right colonic transit time(RCTT),left colonic transit time(LCTT) and rectosigmoid colonic transit time(RSCTT) in 32 healthy subjects, and the excretion rates of barium strips at different time points were measured in 26 FC patients and 32 healthy subjects. Results: TCTT,RCTT,LCTT and RSCTT in healthy subjects were(20.31±11.00) hours,(4.43±4.58) hours,(8.44±4.01) hours and(7.48±7.89) hours, respectively. No statistical differences of TCCT,RCTT,LCTT and RSCTT were found significantly between male and female healthy subjects(P0.05).Excretion rates of barium strips at different time points in FC patients were significantly lower than those in healthy subjects(P0.01).If the cutoff value was set at 72-hour residual rate 20%,of the 26 FC patients there were 19 patients showing a slow colonic transit time. Conclusions: The radioopaque markers method is a simple method which can be easily performed, and can evaluate the colonic transit function in an accurate and effective way.Further more,it may play an important role in the diagnosis of FC." @default.
