- W2384886432 abstract "Based upon the records of our argulids, we have so far only seven freshwater species (Ku Wang, 1956). This species Argulus scutiformis Thiele is the first marine species recorded from our seas. Two female specimens werefound on the body surface of Discobatus sinensis (Bloch Schneider) by Mr. Y. W. Chang at Da-lien, Liaotung Peninsula (10/Ⅴ/1956).Body length 27-28mm., breadth 20-22mm.Body oblong, thick and opaque, with pale green tinge, which is deeper on abdomen. Dorsal surface demarcated into several regions by deep grooves, arranged symmetrically, particularly on the cephalon. Eyes indistinct in preserved specimens.Frontal plate transverse and arched anteriorly and separated from the anterior portion of the thoracic lobe on either side by a gap.Thoracic lobes large, covering almost completely all the thoracic legs and the anterior portion of the abdomen. The posterior sinus left between the two lobes short and narrow, the thoracic lobes sometimes overlapping each other posteriorly.Respiratory areas distinct, the anterior one smaller and oblong in shape, while the posterior one much larger and triangular in shape. The ventral surface of the frontal plate and the antero-lateral portion of the thoracic lobes mounted with numerous spinules, which are also present on the thoracic legs.Abdomen roundish in outline, with a shallow anal sinus. At the base of the sinus, there are a pair of small caudal rami, unequal in length, the right one being longer than the left, each of which has three setae at the apex. The basal segment of antennule very stout with a triangular tooth on the anterior border and another on the posterior border, possessing two smaller ones at the base, and a hooked spine at the distal end. Flagellum small, 3-segmented, the middle one the longest, bearing a seta near the distal border, the terminal segment with four setae at the apex.Antenna 4-segmented, the basal segment stout, with a tooth-like projection at the base of the posterior border and a small.semicircular setose lobe projected at middle of the posterior border, the next three segments tapering and decreasing in length distally, bearing some setae at the tip.Sucking discs large and deep, the majority of the supporting ribs consisting of 35-37 chitinous rods.Second maxilliped very strong, segments densely covered with spinules at certain regions of the ventral surface. The terminal segment produced distally into a lingual process, hanging over two big teeth, with the bases much enlarged.Swimming legs spinulose on the ventral surface. The flagellum of P. 1 extending beyond the coxa of the same leg. The coxa of P. 4 protruded posteriorly, the protrusion with the inner and outer ends bluntly rounded, the posterior border being sparsely setose." @default.
