- W2385463905 abstract "Type of study: prospective, descriptive, and longitudinal study of 89 children admitted with diagnosis of acute diarrheic disease in “Leon Becerra” hospital, Guayaquil – Ecuador during the months of April until September 2009. Objectives: correlate U:P Osmolality results with clinical and laboratory parameters in order to systemize the electrolytic management of paedriatic patients with acute diarrheic disease. Methods and materials: urine osmolality was obtained through urinary density sampling with a densimeter. The plasma osmolality was obtained through serum sodium, coproparasitological tests, and acute phase reactants. Results: there is slight prevalence of male population. The most common admission diagnosis was the gastro enteric syndrome. A quarter of the population analyzed showed evidence of intestinal parasitosis, and a lower percentage showed positive virogen rotatest in feces. The statistical correlation between U:P osmolality and the degree of dehydration was a relevant correlation (p=0.3). This relation was not found with the laboratory parameters (p=0.03). Conclusion: there exists a correlation between U:P osmolality and the semiological symptoms of dehydration. It is important to perform new studies to correlate such data with other populations, especially in children with acute diarrheic disease associated to moderate or severe dehydration." @default.
