- W2385758524 abstract "Objective The consequences of stroke are a major health concern. This study was conducted to compare the quality of life among 6～9 months survivors of stroke with that of general population.Methods Adopting 1:1 paired case control study of 6～9 months survivors of stroke with an aged and sex matched control population with respectively 150 cases. Applying SF 36 to evaluate their quality of life by self rating.Results Mean scores were lower for women in physical functioning, role limitations due to physical problems, social functional and vitality (all P0.01); General health (P=0.017), physical functioning (P=0.015), vitality and mental health (P0.01) decreased with aging. Case patients had lower mean scores than control group for all health dimensions in SF 36 quality of life (P0.001) but bodily pain.Conclusion Quality of life seems to be rather bad for the majority of patients 6～9 months after stroke. Besides serious physical dysfunction, there are serious obstacles in mental health, social functioning and role limitations. So in Chinese community health services, it should be strengthened in mental health services and social functioning ones, especially for female cases." @default.
