- W2386364140 abstract "Objective To investigate the characteristics of functional and structural brain changes in Alzheimer′s disease (AD) Methods Sixty six AD patients and 73 health aged were recruited The subjects were divided into 3 age groups: 60-65 years, 66-70 years and over 70 years SPECT and MRI were conducted o the subjects with consent Radioactive Ratio (RAR) of SPECT was measured Results (1) The RARs of AD in bilateral temporal lobes, parietal lobes and frontal lobes were significantly lower than those of healthy aged ( P 0 05-0 01) (2) No significant perfusion differences between three AD age groups were found (3) AD patients in group aged below 65 years and over 70 years showed decreased blood flow in bilateral parietal and frontal lobes compared with healthy controls in the corresponding age group, respectively ( P 0 05-0 01) (4) Volumes of gray matter and bilateral hippocampi were significantly lower in AD than in healthy ( P 0 01), while volumes of total CSF, peripheral CSF, lateral ventricles, third and fourth ventricles were significantly higher in AD than in healthy (5) There were no significant structure differences between the three AD groups (6) AD showed decreased volumes of gray matter and right hippocampal, increased volume of total CSF, peripheral CSF, third ventricle compared with healthy in the corresponding age group (7) With left and right parietal RAR as variables, hierarchical cluster analysis was applied and 60 AD patients who completed SPECT were satisfactorily subdivided into 3 groups with mild, moderate or severe cognitive impairment according to their Mini Mental State Examination scores (8) Correlation analysis demonstrated that left and right hippocampus volumes were correlated to RARs of cingulate, bilateral parietal lobes, thalami, occipital lobes and basal ganglia Conclusions The pathological changes of AD are characterized with more affected areas and severity The correlation between volumes of bilateral hippocampi and perfusion of parietal lobes and part of limbic systems suggests that these areas could be involved in the pathological mechanism of AD Bilateral parietal RAR can be used as the bio criteria to differentiate AD with various severities" @default.
