- W2386750814 abstract "Late surgery cancellations are a well-known source of frustration to the surgical services. This is no less so in the veterans population where resources are limited and demand is high. A topic of frequent discussion in specialty clinics, the operating room, preanesthesia holding, and administrative meetings is: “What accounts for the cancellation rate?” and “Can the posting schedule be adjusted to predict for late cancellations?”; and, therefore, avoid lost opportunities for veteran care. The North Florida/South Georgia Plastic Surgery Service is based in the Malcom Randall VA Medical Center in Gainesville. It is a largely ambulatory service utilizing two different hospitals. The service took an interest in identifying trends in cancellations with the intent to predict and potentially intervene with new policies and procedures that may help minimize those late cancellations. Systems-based problems affecting the plastic surgery service can be translated to other services and facilities with a largely outpatient surgical populations." @default.
