- W2387142012 abstract "Objective To evaluate hematocrit (HCT) as an early marker of severe pancreatitis.Methods The study covered the years 1997～2001 for 209 inpatients with a first attack of acute pancreatitis in Nanshan hospital.Criteria for severe pancreatitis was Alalantic Criteria 1992.The HCT43 0% for male and 39.6% for female,within 24 h after admission,was defied as an early marker of severe pancreatitis.Results Of 209 patients,39 were severe pancreatitis.The sensitivity and specificity of the HCT to detect severe pancreatitis were 43.59% and 71.76%, respectively.The positive predictive value was 26.15% and negative predictive value was 84.06%.Conclusion The major value of this single easily obtainable and cheap parameter on admission lies in its high negative predictive value.In the absence of hematocrit,conrast enhance CT may be unnecessary on admission unless the patient does not improve." @default.
