- W2388254611 abstract "Cats were operated under an initial dose of chloralose-urethane anesthesia, and then immobilized by flaxedil. The preoptic-anterior hypothalamic region (PO-AH) was approached transpharyngeally with the animal fixed in supine position. The unit discharge of PO-AH and its responses to photic and saphenous nerve stimulation were recorded with micropipette and analyzed by a medical data processor. A total of 200 units were studied. The spontaneous discharge rate of these units varied from 1 to 15/sec., but the majority fired at 1-15/sec. Among the 140 units tested with somatic nerve stimulation, 69 (49.3％) were responsive to saphenous nerve stimulation, of which 23 units showed excitatory response; 36 units inhibitory, and 10 units inconsistent responses. Four units were responsive exclusively to peripheral C-fibre inputs and might be taken for pain units. Among the 181 units tested with Photic stimulation, 93 (51.4％) were responsive, where 21 showed excitatory response, 62 inhibitory response, and 10 units inconsistent responeses. Ten out of 93 photic units reacted to bilateral light stimulations. A long-latency photic unit was noted in PO-AH region. Attenuation of the responses of PO-AH neurons occurred when the stimuli were applied repetitively. Thirty-four units showed polysensory convergent responses. The projection of nociceptive and photic inputs to the PO-AH region and the resemblance in behavior of PO-AH neurons to that of the reticular formation were briefly discussed." @default.
